Statement of Candidacy

My involvement within LITA has increased over the past eight years and I am stepping up to make a greater impact in serving its members. I have a record of successfully managing large projects, and I have great aptitude in effectively communicating and collaborating with others. As a member of the LITA Board, I will use these skills to help move forward online programming, transparency in decisions, and embrace opportunities for collaboration external to LITA. I will also listen to the needs of LITA members and do my best in representing those needs to the LITA Board.

Why vote for me?

Over 10 years experience in academic and research libraries of varying sizes
Invited to speak frequently on library and web technologies at local and national conferences
Received 6 microgrants for up to $2000 each to conduct research, plan major events and build web tools with other campus departments external to the Libraries
Worked to improve communication and committee procedures for 5 years on the LITA Program Planning Committee from 2005-2010
Taught a popular 3-credit hour course on web development, information and technology literacy from 2003-2004
Accepted into and completed the ALA Emerging Leaders Program in 2007
Passionate about the library profession and capitalizing on emerging technologies to help communicate, teach, and learn from one another
Well-rounded perspective – Teaching classes, leading information literacy initiatives, providing reference, maintaining databases, redesigning websites and managing a Web Services department in a large research library has provided me with a unique understanding of the needs of different areas within libraries
